2009 Boston Pride Theme: "Trans-forming our Community"

The community has spoken! The 2009 Boston Pride theme, as chosen through a community online vote is, "Trans-forming our Community".

This theme not only builds upon last year's theme of sustaining our community, but also focuses on a particular issue in the LGBT community: supporting and advocating for our trans families, friends and colleagues. Boston Pride is working to transform our entire community to be all-inclusive and to involve everyone. Community is the heartbeat of Pride. It is the reminder to each of us that we are not alone
Boston Pride is also excited to announce our Marshals for 2009

Grand Marshal: Pathways to Wellness, the South End-based non-profit acupuncture and holistic medicine center that provides extensive services for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Honorary Marshal: Barbara Jordan, the Texas Congresswoman who was the first African-American woman from the South to serve in Congress. While the late Congresswoman never publicly acknowledged her sexuality, her death obituaries acknowledged her long-time partner, Nancy Earl.

Celebrity Marshal: Melissa Etheridge, the world-renown singer and out lesbian is not confirmed to attend the Pride festivities, and yet, she's managed to put Pride in the papers months ahead of June events. Thanks Melissa!
