InterPride representatives to visit Boston for pre-conference meeting
Â
Boston– April 24, 2012 – Boston Pride announced today that representatives from InterPride, the international association for organizations that produce Pride events around the world, will be visiting Boston this weekend. From April 27-29, InterPride will hold its annual mid-year board meeting to prepare for InterPride’s 2012 Annual General Meeting to be held in Boston this October.   InterPride representatives from the U.S., Canada and Europe will attend the mid-year meeting and other representatives from around the world will join via videoconference.
“We are excited to host InterPride representatives in Boston this weekend and show them around our city,†said Boston Pride president, Linda DeMarco. “It is important for them to visit our community before the international  conference this fall, and we want to ensure them that they chose a world class city for their world class conference.â€
Caryl Dolinko, Co President of InterPride, said Boston is a great choice for this year’s InterPride Annual World Conference and she looks forward to bringing the world’s Pride groups together. “Since this is the 30th anniversary of InterPride’s conference, we are going to celebrate how far we have come and also work on building a strategy for our future,†said Dolinko.  “The Pride movement has grown significantly over the past 30 years, and we all know how to put on great events and parades. In our next phase, Pride will additionally focus on human rights issues that affect the LGBT community around the world.â€
Aside from their planning meeting, the representatives will do plenty of sightseeing and will attend a fabulous dinner at Gaslight Brasserie in the South End, an Aquitaine Group restaurant that serves French cuisine and is known for pride in its food and people.
“We are honored that Boston Pride has chosen to bring the delegates of InterPride to Gaslight Brasserie while they are visiting Boston,†said the restaurants assistant general manager Sarah Pope. “Gaslight Brasserie believes in promoting inclusivity and equality and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of Boston hosting worldwide Pride leaders.â€
InterPride was originally created in Boston in 1982 to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride on an international level. With the efforts of Governor Patrick, Mayor Menino and many others who worked to bring InterPride back to the city where it all began, Boston was chosen as the host for the 2012 InterPride Annual World Conference. This year’s conference will celebrate the organization’s 30th anniversary and will be held at the Sheraton Boston Hotel from October 3-7. The conference provides an opportunity for LGBT communities from all corners of the world to come together.
