Boston Pride Announces 2013 Pride Week Theme and Calls for Parade Marshal Nominations

Major Announcements Upcoming on Boston Pride App

Boston, MA – (March 21, 2013) – – Boston Pride announced today that the theme for the 2013 Pride Parade and Festival is, “Moving Forward…Proud, Strong, United.” The theme represents the hardships that the LGBT community has persevered through and the drive to move forward together. Boston Pride Week 2013 will be held from May 31st through June 9th.

“Boston’s LGBT community has witnessed much adversity throughout the fight for equality over the past few decades,” said Linda DeMarco, president of Boston Pride.  “In working together, the community has become a leader in the fight for LGBT rights. Pride Week this year will celebrate the importance of continuing to lead this nation in the fight for equality as a united front.”

Moving forward also means moving to a digital platform for all Boston Pride announcements and updates. The app, which debuted in 2012, was the first-in-the-nation pride app developed in partnership with EDGE Media Network. Once downloaded, app users are able to access exclusive information and be the first to receive updates on Boston Pride events. The app also allows users to track events, upload photos, and connect with other revelers.  App users will be first to hear about announcements and special promotions for Pride Week.  Download the app for your iPhone or Android today.

“We are thrilled at the response we received last year with our Boston Pride app and this year, we have even more in store for our app users.  It’s the fastest way to access the latest information about Boston Pride and it’s environmentally friendly and user friendly as well,” said DeMarco.

The organization is also calling on supporters and parade participants to nominate this year’s 2013 Parade Marshals.  The Parade has three categories: Grand Marshal; Honorary Marshal, which is only given posthumously; and Celebrity Marshal.  Members of the general public can nominate Marshals by emailing the nominees name and contact information to Nominations@BostonPride.org. The deadline to send a nomination is April 15th. Once all nominations have been submitted, the general public will have the opportunity to vote for a winner in each category.

Boston Pride Week is comprised of events and activities that aim to bring people together, stir the mind, shake up the dance floor, create safe and healthy spaces, and make an impact. Kicking the week off with The Annual Flag Raising Ceremony, 2013 Pride Week will also include,  Pride Day @ Faneuil Hall, Royal Pageant, Boston Pride Parade, Boston Pride Festival, Boston Pride Youth Dance,  Boston Pride Block Party: JP Edition and Boston Pride Block Party: Back Bay Edition.
