Boston Pride is very happy for Caitlyn Jenner, who is now, in her words, “living [her] true self.” The portrait of Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair, which captures her in quintessential Hollywood glamour, provides a high contrast to the popular image of Jenner as the epitome of the all-American male athlete and Olympic champion. Through her celebrity, Jenner has raised visibility and awareness of the trans community. Since publicizing her personal journey, Jenner has catalyzed discussion in the general public about trans identity and issues, which present important opportunities to educate and to inspire new allies.

Boston Pride stands with transgender members of our community, as we must continue to fight for trans rights and equality, and to address issues of poverty, violence, and housing and healthcare discrimination affecting the transgender community. As we celebrate 45 years of Boston Pride, we are proud to recognize Erica Kay-Webster, a Stonewall veteran and transgender activist, as one of our 2015 Grand Marshals.
