In 2016, Boston Pride inaugurated its Pride Arts program, a series of events that focus on queer-related art and culture. In particular, Pride Arts ventures to showcase LGBTQ artists, authors, and creators in the greater Boston area, and to connect our larger community with arts and culture, in all of its forms and expressions.

On Our Own Terms: Underrepresented Voices in Poetry Hawthorne Hotel Library Room (18 Washington Square W, Salem, MA)Poetic language can empower and lend authority to voices that are otherwise often marginalized. The LGBTQ community, encompassing the wide spectrum of gender and sexual “other,” is one representation of this, and our experiences with class, ethnicity, employment, and socio-politics often combine in creating our sense of “otherness.” For those of us whose experience of life is different from the mainstream, all of those things are inextricably tied. Four LGBTQ poets (Dominique Cyprès, Pilar Quintana, James St. Vincent, Nate Vaccaro) will read from our work and discuss how we use poetic forms to define, realize and express our unique life experiences, creating a voice not only for ourselves as individuals, but for our community. SebastiaÌn Lelio’s dazzling Oscar-winner tells the story of Marina (Daniela Vega), a transgender woman, and her boyfriend Orlando (Francisco Reyes), who falls gravely ill and dies. Instead of being allowed to mourn her lover in peace, Marina is treated with suspicion by doctors and Orlando’s family. A detective begins to investigate Marina to see if she was involved in his death, and Orlando’s ex-wife forbids her from attending the funeral. In spite of opposition on all sides, and the weight of her own grief, this fantastic woman fights for her right to mourn her beloved.

Burrows & Company, specialists in historic reproduction decorative arts, John Burrows is nationally recognized for his knowledge of nineteenth-century architecture and interior design. During his career, he has worked on over 100 of America’s most significant historic houses and public buildings. #Bodied Language Artist Social and Forum Discussion on Non-Traditional Body Art in the Traditional Art Community Dudley Cafe (15 Warren St, Roxbury, MA) > Get your ticket now#BODIEDxSaturn is hosting an artists’ social and forum focused on the artistry of non-traditional/body artists, and their experience and integration into the traditional artistic community. The event will feature the works of queer/allied body artists, vendors, musical performances from some of Boston’s finest, and a lot of jamming and good vibes. The night will end with a panel discussion, more food and drinks, and of course, an artistic farewell!
