Boston Pride

NEWSLETTER - Vol. 4 No. 11
Happy Autumn!

Dear friends,

The mission of this first newsletter for our 2010 Pride Season is simple…to say hello after a long, rainy summer, to let you know that we are back in action gearing up for our 40th Anniversary Pride season, and to encourage you to get involved!

You’ll be seeing much more of us now that we’ve had a few months to rest, recuperate and rejuvenate!

Happy Autumn from the Boston Pride Committee!

Welcome to our New Chairs

Three Boston Pride Committee Chairs were elected to leadership positions last week!

Heather Mills will be serving her 2nd year as Logistics Chair. In this role, Heather ensures that all Pride events have everything they need to run smoothly and successfully like tables, tents, radios and toilets!

Cale Moore has been re-elected to the position of Merchandise Chair for his third term. He will be coordinating all our merchandising efforts, during Pride events and beyond!

Sarah Prager comes to the Pride Committee as a newbie but brings with her tons of experience in the non-profit sector. We’re delighted to welcome her to the Volunteer Chair position.

We congratulate Heather, Cale and Sarah and hope you will join us in welcoming them to the Boston Pride Committee.

Join in on the fun!

Now that you met— albeit so briefly!— three members of our team, don’t you want to join the fun?

The Boston Pride Committee is always looking for new people to join our ranks. And there are so many ways— both big and small— that you can help. Of course, we have Chair positions that need filling including Entertainment, Parade, JP and Stuart Street Block Party and Media but we also can use some volunteer help around the office, making phone calls, and promoting events.

Since we’re about to embark on planning some amazing, spectacular 40th Anniversary Celebrations, now’s the time to get involved! Interested? Come to a meeting and see where the road takes you!

BOSTON PRIDE COMMITTEE LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR FIRST DEPUTY DIRECTOR

After almost 40 years of service to the LGBT Community as an all-volunteer 501c(3) non-profit organization, The Boston Pride Committee is setting out to hire its first-ever full time employee to lead the organization into the future. The Board of Directors is seeking resumes to fill their newly instated position of Deputy Director.

“Boston Pride has always been a grassroots organization and will remain so,” explained Linda DeMarco, Boston Pride President. “More than one million people attended Boston Pride activities last year in events organized solely by a group of volunteers in their spare time. As we begin planning now for our 40th anniversary in 2010, hiring a Deputy Director is just the next step in the evolution of the organization.”

Operating since 1970, Boston Pride is an independent, non-profit agency that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied community by working to enhance visibility through a week of events each June and year-round activities designed to promote LGBT awareness, dignity, and understanding.

The public can learn more by visiting www.bostonpride.org/dd. Interested candidates should send cover letter, resume and salary requirement to hr@bostonpride.org. The deadline for applying is October 15 with interviews taking place in early November.

Call for Theme Nominations to begin in November

In November, Boston Pride will launch it’s Call for Theme Nominations for Pride 2010. During the open nominating period, you will be able to offer suggestions for next year’s theme. Once they’re collected, they will be posted online for everyone in the community to vote on! Selecting the theme for Boston Pride is truly a community event so stay tuned and get ready to submit, submit, submit your ideas!

Pride Meetings

The Boston Pride Committee meets every other Tuesday through December (and every Tuesday beginning in January 2010) at 6:30pm in the Wainwright Bank Community Room, 155 Dartmouth Street in Boston (next to Back Bay T Station). Meetings are open to anyone and we welcome your participation. Visit our website for a listing of upcoming meetings.
